POSITION SUMMARY

Mayo is seeking an experienced pilot to captain a King Air 200 to support their air ambulance operation in Durango, CO. Maintaining readiness throughout an extended shift, this individual will serve as a single pilot to transport patients from Durango under day, night and instrument conditions to medical facilities across the Front Range and surrounding states. The Air Ambulance Pilot will be responsible for closely following Mayo Aviation guidelines to make sound judgments regarding the safe operation of the aircraft. This includes reviewing load weights, fuel supplies, weather conditions, and flight routes, as well as coordinating with airport ground crew.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Pilots company aircraft to transport patients from Durango, CO to medical facilities across the Front Range and surrounding states
  • Maintains readiness to fly during entire shift at Durango facility
  • Supervises loading of passengers, equipment and baggage; ensuring that weight and balance specifications are met
  • As a single pilot without crew, independently completes pre-flight inspection of aircraft; checks all consumables such as fuel and oil to ascertain adequate quantities and determines that aircraft is airworthy and prepared for flight in accordance with FAA and Company regulations
  • Studies weather information in advance of flights; utilizes information to select routings, altitudes, and speeds; checks airport and airway data that may affect conduct of flights and completes and files flight plans, records and reports with FAA and ICAO facilities
  • Exercises extreme care and judgment while in flight, being alert to cope with mountain terrain, irregularities and adverse weather conditions; determines appropriate courses of action to ensure safety of passengers
  • Coordinates flight activities with control towers, mechanic, ground crews, and air traffic control at airports across the Front Range
  • Uses instrumentation to guide flights when visibility is poor
  • Ensures servicing, storing and proper care and protection of Company aircraft and equipment; conducts post-flight inspection of aircraft and reports operating data to mechanics
  • Adheres to guidelines, procedures and protocols as established by Flight For Life

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts
  • Ability to independently make sound piloting decisions in accordance with Mayo Aviation and FAA policies and procedures
  • FAA First Class Medical
  • ATP rated
  • Impeccable safety record
  • Previous experience with IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) flying is required
  • Previous single pilot experience in mountain terrain preferred
