Air League and Padpilot launch ATPL theory bursaries

The Air League and aviation theory publisher Padpilot have announced new bursaries aimed at supporting students through their theoretical knowledge training.

The Air League, one of Britain’s largest aviation non-profit organisations, already provides many scholarships and bursaries across the aerospace industry, from gliding to engineering. In 2024, the Air League provided nearly 100 flying, gliding and electric flying scholarships. The total value of funding opportunities which have been awarded over the past decade now stands at nearly £2m.

Ben Harris, scholarships programme manager at The Air League, said, “The Air League is delighted to announce the addition of a new ATPL Theory bursary to our ever-growing scholarship programme. This bursary is designed specifically for members who have already obtained their PPL(A) and are eager to advance to the next stage of their pilot training. This exciting development is made possible by the incredibly generous donation from Padpilot, who have provided five ATPL Theory Bursaries. We extend our deepest thanks to Padpilot for their generosity and investment in our members.”

The new ATPL theory bursaries will see five applicants each awarded a Padpilot ATPL(A) theory books set: 17 eBooks, comprising of the 13 mandatory subjects as well as Maths and Physics. These will be standalone materials and not tied to an Approved Training Organisation (ATO). Applications open Monday 5th August 2024, and will close at 23:59 on Sunday 15th September 2024.

Applicants will need to be aged over 17 years old, hold a PPL(A), be a UK Citizen and be a member of the Air League. Applicants must also hold a Class 1 medical.

Recently appointed CEO of Padpilot, Nathan Grey, said, “We’re delighted to offer these bursaries in partnership with The Air League, supporting young people into a career as a commercial pilot. Flying is the best job in the world and it starts with gaining an aviator’s education that lays the technical foundation for all that follows.”
