Oxford-based Approved Training Organisations (ATO) Leading Edge Aviation and Pilot Flight Training have joined into a strategic partnership with Buckinghamshire New University (BNU), under the university’s ATO Preferred Partner programme.
BNU’s School of Aviation and Security launched their ATO Preferred Partner programme in December 2023, with Leading Edge Aviation and Pilot Flight Training announced as the first two ATOs.
The Preferred Partner quality mark scheme, aims to help provide BNU students with ‘tried and tested flight training options in relatively good proximity’ to the BNU campuses.
Andy McFarlane, CEO of Leading Edge Aviation, commented on the partnership, “We are excited to embark on this journey with Buckinghamshire New University. Our shared commitment to excellence in aviation training is at the heart of this partnership. We are proud to contribute our advanced training resources, including our unique ‘whole pilot’ approach aimed at creating future Captains, to BNU’s pilot degree students. This collaboration is not just about imparting skills; it’s about shaping the next generation of industry-ready aviation professionals.”
The programme includes on-site tutor support during flight training phases and joint marketing efforts. Regular assessments will be conducted to ensure the effective integration of academic and practical training.
David Warnock-Smith, Head of Research and Enterprise in the School of Aviation and Security at BNU, said of the initiative’s launch: “I’m delighted that we have partnered with two highly reputable flight schools in Leading Edge Aviation and Pilot Flight Training to deliver an outstanding enhancement to our BSc (Hons) Aviation Management with Commercial Pilot Training in Aeroplanes programme for our students. The initiative will give students more certainty and reassurance when selecting flight schools for the modular flight training elements of their degree programme, and it will be pivotal in the students’ overall experience of the programme and in the outcomes they can achieve.
Director and Head of Training at PFT, Tom Saunders stated, “Pilot Flight Training is very proud to be selected as the preferred training partner of BNU this year, having trained BNU students since 2019.
