As its 2015 Professional Helicopter Pilot Scholarship programme comes to a close, Helicentre Aviation Academy has launched two additional helicopter training scholarships, which will be awarded in 2016.
This is the fourth year the company has offered a scholarship programme which awards motivated student pilots with funded training, and by the end of 2015, Helicentre Aviation Academy will have awarded fifteen scholarships with a combined value of more than £250,000.
It’s fantastic news for those who are serious about a career flying helicopters, with one scholarship covering the cost of hour building and professional training right through to graduating as a professional pilot, and the other fully funding the Flight Instructor Course. This year’s scholarship hopefuls will also be encouraged by the news, which will provide them with another chance to apply should they be unsuccessful this time around.
Being awarded a scholarship of this magnitude is a life-changing experience, as last year’s CPL(H) scholarship winner, James Geary (bottom right of picture) discovered. Having passed his PPL(H) just before the deadline, James was awarded the scholarship after attending an interview and giving an outstanding presentation. He has since built enough hours to start his CPL(H) course and is now just weeks away from operating his first commercial flight. The experience James has gained along the way, including three trips across Europe and a significant number of R44 and Cabri G2 hours all funded by Helicentre Aviation Academy, has been incredible.
Despite the high value of the two scholarships, application numbers continue to be low, on average less than twenty per year. As always, the company encourages candidates to apply as early as possible. Applicants for the CPL(H) scholarship must complete their PPL(H) at Helicentre Aviation Academy before 30 September 2016. This is also the deadline for the FI(H) scholarship and candidates applying for this must complete their CPL(H) course before this date to be eligible to apply.
