CAE and Japan Airlines (JAL) have agreed to extend the Japan Airlines Multi-Crew Pilot Licence (MPL) First Officer Programme.

Under the new agreement, a further 100 cadets will be selected to begin MPL training for Japan Airlines (JAL) over the next few years.

“Following our historic joint venture, we are honoured to continue growing our relationship with our partners at Japan Airlines (JAL). In addition to providing type-rating training for JAL’s pilots, we are pleased to announce the addition of a further 100 aspiring pilots to the MPL First Officer programme, following the success of the initial phase,” said Nick Leontidis, CAE Group President, Civil Aviation Training Solutions.

In 2013, Japan Airlines selected CAE as its partner of choice for a tailored MPL training programme. Since launch, 100 cadets have been selected and are undergoing their training as First Officers for Japan Airlines. The first cadets are scheduled to complete the programme in Phoenix in December 2015. The renewal of this contract brings the total cadets enrolled in the programme to 200.

MPL is a training and licensing methodology used to develop ab initio students directly into First Officers within a specific commercial airline environment. Currently, more than 1,000 MPL graduates are flying successfully with their airlines across Asia and Europe.
