To celebrate the introduction of its Airline Ready Course (MCC/JOC), Wings Alliance welcomed aspiring pilots from across the country to apply for a free one-day selection course at Wings Alliance member, Bristol Groundschool’s headquarters in North Somerset. The Wings Alliance aims to provide a cost effective and flexible, high quality complete training route. Six places were available and two of these candidates were then selected to go forward to attend a free, three-week MCC/JOC course in April.
There was a tremendous response. The six lucky candidates who were chosen, based on their application and training records, to attend the selection day were: Matthew Chappell, Jasmeet Dhaliwai, Govinder Kali, Oliver Troth, Helen Wilson and Michael Windsor (pictured above).
The one-day course was conducted by a team of assessors: Rod Wren, CEO of the Wings Alliance; Jamie Richie-Butler and Tom Perrins from AirlinePrep, an organisation who specialise in providing airline pilot assessment preparation for competency based airline interviews; and the Wings Alliance Chief Training Captain, Ian Baston who is the former Director of Flight Operations for Flybe.
The day consisted of group exercises, an individual interview and a planning exercise.
Rod Wren said, “We had a really interesting day, the quality of candidates attending was high which made life easy for us, but it made for a difficult decision about who to award the two MCC/JOC places to. In the end we awarded the places to Helen Wilson and Michael Windsor. Jasmeet Dhaliwai was a close third and has been offered a free place on our First Officer Management Skills course.”
Helen said, “The Wings Alliance selection day was so enjoyable that there were moments when I almost forgot I was part of a competitive assessment! It provided an excellent insight into airline section processes, and also offered opportunity to chat with both fellow applicants and experienced airline pilots – I would highly recommend it!”
Wings Alliance aims to allow aspiring pilots to choose the best and most appropriate Flight Schools for their circumstances at every stage of their training, whilst providing them with a comprehensive training record which is invaluable for airline recruiters. Applicants for airline placement will be put through selection before an assessed MCC/JOC course and the First Officer Management Skills Course; successful graduates will be recommended to partner airlines.
